Mayor’s son arrested for ganja

The son of Kingston's Mayor Desmond McKenzie was arrested and charged Friday morning by the police from the Joint Task Force based at the Mobile Reserve.

Reports are that about 1:40am, the police accosted a group of men at a dance along Waltham Park Road.

Marcus Desmond McKenzie, 30, was searched a quantity of ganja was found in his left pocket.

<span style="font-weight: bold">He reportedly tried to free himself from the grasp of the police <span style="font-style: italic">despite being encouraged by the crowd to cooperate</span>.</span>

Mr. McKenzie, who resides at Waterworks in St. Andrew, was taken to the Hunts Bay Police Station and charged with illegal possession of ganja and resisting arrest.

He was offered bail and is scheduled to appear in court on March 4.

jamaica gov't is a laughing stock...
i bet they arrest more people for ganja than for murder...

Wonder what DMack will have to say about this. What if the cops had beaten the crap out of his son?
I mean it was just last strong that he was blaming deportees and human rights activists for killing his bodyguard!

So is what threat to society does someone with a likkle weed innna dem top pocket present that warrants arrest by <span style="font-style: italic">a Joint (Police/Military) Task Force</span> ?

In the UK, police don't even bother to arrest you if you have a LIKKLE weed in your pocket these days...

Yea, that's great. Certainly better than 30 years ago when I lived there....

Was on Brixton market a few years ago, and round the back at the end, took a break and sat on some stairs, me kid dancing about, there were some guys smoking. All very relaxed

I don't think it started with the Ganja. My opinion is they would most likely have let him go, but for the resistance.

Here I can't blame the police. The is squarely on the laws of of Jamaica that give the police in Jamaica the right to stop and search a Jamaican Citizen going about his or her business, as well as to lock up folks for small quantities of weed and other narcotics.

Well his behavior wasn't one that seems to be good seeing that it is reported the crowd as to tell him to co-operate. These children whose parents are leaders should understand that they are not above the law.

I think it really boils down to the profits that they have to forego if the dance is shut down at the required time instead of at daylight which is usually the aim.

LOL 1:40 AM for a dance to end on Waltham Park Road is pretty early. I doubt school kids were on the mind of the SFs, they would surely have played up the fact that they lack aff the sound because it was disturbing the peace.

No my guess is Mayor Son....I bet his posse...err convoy included hot girls, jewelry, a Benz, a Bimmer, in other words something likely to attract the attention of Jamaica's finest.

The mayor`s son is 30 yo. He I dont think is attached to the mayor`s hip like he might have when he was 13.
Whatever the son did he did on his own and with his choice of friends.

Dezzy Mac might dissassociate himself from the goings on of his adult son one never can tell.

Maybe the cops targeted the son knowing very well who he is and what they want to stir up.

And you don't think that there are people living in areas like Waltham Pk. Road who either call the police to protest the noise or would like to do so but are afraid?

I know about dance times, a few years ago 1:40am would be the time when most people would be arriving at a dance. The irony is that the hot girls, jewelry, Benzes and Bimmers are from communities where they and their families that they leave behind can enjoy quiet, restful and uninterrupted sleep.

I live in earshot of such an area and when the police arrive you can hear the selector screeching and squawking at the top of his voice (which is kind of what usually goes on anyway but with music)cursing uncooperative neighbours and the police. This goes on for about 30 minutes or more until all the noise dies down or sometimes the dance restarts after about an hour or so. Most times if there is a restart the dance continues until daylight and people are on their way to school, church or work. This is the time when the especially hardcore sounds are played.
